Students Plan Protest at Santa Monica Gap Store

Protestors will perform a "die-in."

By City News Service

Student Coalition Against Labor Exploitation (SCALE), AFL-CIO and other union partners plan a protest at the Third Street Promenade Gap Saturday afternoon.

The protest is to demand that the company sign onto the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, which, according to a press advisory, holds corporations legally responsible for the safety of garment workers in that country.

According to the press advisory, students and community members will enter the store to perform a "die-in,'' simulating the deaths of Bangladeshi factory workers, falling to the floor among black coffins and white roses.

Protesters then plan to form a human chain and chant.

Other demonstrations are planned at Gap stores across the country, according to the press advisory.
