The bike trails were made for PediCabs to pickup tired walkers, prevent exhaustion, and transport the elders of the city down a trail they may never walk again. But, SaMo says no businesses on the Beach Bike Trail. I spoke with a few owners and they are going to fight this ordinance and the five tickets they have received over the past few weeks.
“Why would the city tell a non motorized tricycle not to ride where non motorized vehicles are allowed?” one of the owners chimed in, “”there are several businesses operating on the beach bike trail in Santa Monica.”

After further investigation, Segway tours is operating on the bike trail, not sure if they’ve been ticketed. Plus Perry’s cafe is booming on the beach bike trail.
The good news is that the community is coming together to help get pedicabs on the bike trail where they belong. “It’s a safety issue,” says a Senior living in a seniorLiving complex, “I can’t walk that well and a Pedicab has been my only access to the bike trail, now that is gone. I used to take daily walks, but they turned into weekly rides on a PediCab.” Now that luxury is gone until City Council changes the ordinance.
