A festival-worthy crowd packed the , and the surrounding beach, Thursday night to rock with L.A. natives Best Coast. The lo-fi surf pop duo played songs off both of its studio albums, with lead singer Bethany Cosentino gushing about her love for California.
The youthful audience returned the love by tossing beach balls and crowd surfing. One concert-goer made it onto the stage and danced around guitarist Bobb Bruno, only to be quickly escorted off by security. When police tried to keep fans from crowding in around the stage, the band was quick to applaud the size of the audience and brushed off the police orders.
Ending the night with a four-song encore, brought on by the cheers of the crowd, Best Coast returned with some of its most loved songs and ended this year's on a high note. The feel-good, fun vibe and fuzzy pop jams under the Santa Monica night's sky only reiterated the band's lyrics, "Why would you live anywhere else?"
