On Jan. 30, the city of Santa Monica will conduct its annual homeless count. Join over 200 volunteers survey our community to find out how many people are living on the street.

Every New Year, many of us proclaim resolutions to make a difference in the community. On Wednesday, January 30th there is a great opportunity to do a good deed for Santa Monica. Volunteer for the 2013 Homeless Count!

We are still accepting individuals and groups to be a part of the 200-plus community volunteer effort as we hit the streets to visually count every person sleeping in public spaces. This annual count informs our homeless strategy, which has reduced the number of people sleeping on the streets by 34 percent from 2009-2012.

This is an eye-opening experience and chance for you to make an impact. Come on your own or sign up as a group with friends or co-workers.

The count will take place on the evening of Wednesday, January 30th from 10:30pm to 2:30am. The night begins at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium's East Wing where you will meet your team members, receive your instructions and assigned area.  Security will be provided and all volunteers will receive training.
