Blog | ICE at Santa Monica Skating Rink Opens

Sixth season of skating at ICE at Santa Monica now underway. The rink is open to the public daily through January 31.

Skating rink ICE at Santa Monica opened November 8th with a fun-filled evening of skating, music and kid's activities. Despite considerable rain showers early in the day, the party went on at 6:00pm under clear skies.

Hosts, World Champions and two-time Olympians, Randy Gardner and Tai Babilonia kicked off the evening by introducing a performance by the ICE at Santa Monica Elite Skating Ensemble, featuring Rockne Brubaker, Roxette Howe, Themi Leftheris, Jennifer Don, Ben Blanford and Brandon Michael Larcom. This was followed by a pair skating performance by Themi and Jennifer, and a synchronized skating exhibition by everyone's favorite, California Gold.

DJ Kelly DLux kept the party going as the evening transitioned to a welcome by Downtown Santa Monica Inc. CEO Kathleen Rawson introduced the Board members of the organization, along with newlyelected City Council members, including Terry O'Day who asked everyone to wish for snow...and lo and behold, the snow began to fall.

Local band Venice played two sets of wonderful original songs and crowd favorites, with DJ DLux spinning tunes betweens sets and for the rest of the evening. Local PAL kids were the first to skate once the rink opened officially, and they were joined by other local residents shortly thereafter. Kids also enjyed decorating holiday cookies, facepainting, lollipop tosses and other fun activities. Local dignitaries enjoyed sampling great cuisine from local restaurants Rosti and Real Food Daily.

All in all, a great time was had by all... kicking off the 6th season of skating at ICE at Santa Monica.
