The Main Event

  • Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura will be at to hype his latest book, 63 Documents the Government Doesn't Want You to Read. The collection details alleged health care cover-ups, the war in Afghanistan, top-secret CIA programs and more. He'll be at the book store at 7 p.m.

The Runner-Up

  • Ventura will be competing for authorial attention with Pearl of China novelist Anchee Min, who will give a talk at the 's MLK Auditorium starting at the same time. The book gives a fictional account of Pearl S. Buck, the first American female to land the Nobel Prize.

Other Happenings

  • Why watch people cook on TV when you can, you know, actually cook? If you've been wondering the same thing, head over to the at 4 p.m., when the library stages its own "Iron Chef" contest. The free, hour-long event is for fifth graders and up.
  • maestro Gerry Fialka interviews filmmaker Kate Perotti at at 8 p.m. as part of his larger "Documental" program. The chat will revolve around Momz Hot Rocks, Perotti's 2009 movie, which cast a gaze on small-time rock bands made up of moms. The flick will be screened as well during the event; it runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
  • So you think you can't dance? Head over to the at 6:30 p.m., when Beach House Choreographer in Residence Keith Glassman teaches some basic moves to those with little to no experience. The free workshop takes place in the Garden Terrace Room.

  • On Apr. 11, 2006, the approved a settlement between Morley Construction, Watson Land Company and the City of Santa Monica regarding a dispute over asbestos removal from the site of the Main Library.
