One last note before we dive into today: students have calculated the amount of money they raised for their fundraiser. The total was $5,086, slightly more than their goal.

For those of you keeping track of the amount of money raised for throughout Santa Monica, here are the latest figures (click on the hyperlinks for the related stories): American Red Cross of Santa Monica Youth Run 4 Japan—$150,000; Red Cross fundraising drive—$10,261; Santa Monica College—$5,086 (includes $1,000 pledge from professors); St. Monica's Catholic Schools—$1,725.10; Emperor's College—$1,000.

The Main Event

  • A Good Friday service and baptism will be held on at Lifeguard Tower 15. The event, which is open to the public and hosted by the Metro Calvary Chapel (located at 1420 Yale St.), will last from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The Runner-Up

  • Meanwhile, will stage a Stations of the Cross gathering—during which the Passion of the Christ is depicted—at from 3 to 4 p.m. The park is located across the street from the church.

Other Happenings

  • In celebration of Easter weekend, will be serving sourdough Hot X Buns today. The bar and restaurant will feature a traditional roast dinner and Easter egg hunt for kids on Sunday.
  • Celebrate kids and bilingual literacy in the 's MLK Auditorium from 3 to 4 p.m. Bilingual educator, children's author and musician José-Luis Orozco will perform; games are also on the program.
  • Kelly Soo Park is facing a pretrial hearing at 8:30 a.m. in a Los Angeles court. The Thousand Oaks woman was for killing actress Juliana Redding in her Santa Monica apartment in March 2008.

This Day in Santa Monica History

  • On Apr. 22, 2008, the City of Santa Monica told the Federal Aviation Administration that it refused to withdraw the enforcement letter it had sent to aircraft operators at . The letter warned of the impending ban on , and said violators could be fined or even go to jail (source: AOPA.org).
