The Main Event

  • If you're thinking about enrolling in one of the city's Community Recreation Programs, today's the day to hop to it. From this morning until Tuesday, Santa Monica residents get priority online-only registration. Also this morning, until 10 a.m., residents lacking a computer can use one of several set up at . Of course, there are computers available for public use at the four Santa Monica Public Library branches too. If you plan to register online, make sure you set up a city account first.

The Runner-Up

  • Speaking of the library, that's where it's at today, in terms of things to do. For starters, the 's August Family Flicks series kicks off with a screening of Tangled, the computer-generated blockbuster loosely based on the story of Rapunzel. The free screening starts at 2 p.m. in the MLK Auditorium.

Other Happenings

  • While the Main Library's August movie series is just getting started, the 's Summer Activity Programs are coming to an end today. The magic show Where in the World Is Dave's Bunny?, which took place Monday at the Main Library, happens at the Fairview one from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.
  • So, what's happening at the , you ask? The Summer Books & Bites series, of course. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders are invited to the library at 5 p.m. for a discussion about Rick Yancy's book The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp. Publishers Weekly named the adventure novel one of 2005's Best Books for Children.
  • And if you're looking for something on the opposite end of the spectrum, burlesque is on the bill at tonight. The Dollface Dames Musical Show, which takes place the first Wednesday of every month, starts at 10 p.m.
