The Main Event

  • A newly designed Whale Tail License Plate will be unveiled today during three news conferences happening simultaneously at 10 a.m. in California. One of the Beachside Press Conferences will take place at the , where reps for the California Coastal Commission, California Department of Motor Vehicles and other organizations will present the plate, a related design contest, environmental initiatives and more.

  • Alterations to 's Airport Arts Campus are on the agenda for tonight's Board of Trustees meeting. The college's ongoing construction and facilities projects will also be discussed when the body convenes in the Board Room of Business Building Room 117. Other Happenings

  • Brad Garrett, one of the best-known actors in the now-defunct TV sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, continues his six-week acting class today. Participants in the at the ' Acting Studio are learning all aspects of comedic acting, from auditioning to character development to script analysis. Go here for more info about the class, which runs every Tuesday through Aug. 30.
  • If it's live comedy you're seeking, you're in luck too. —the bar that hosts the Santa Monica chapter of Drinking Liberally—is putting on a show starting at 7 p.m. It's free.
  • has some live entertainment of its own tonight, courtesy musician Iliana Rose and company. She'll head up two performances, starting at 8 and 10:30 p.m.—and they're both free. Grammy Award-winning drummer Raul Pineda and three other musicians will be backing her up.
