Big Waves Batter SM Beach: See Pics

The waves were still walloping Santa Monica Beach late Friday afternoon.

Big waves continued to wallop and other parts of Southern California on Friday. .

The southern swell—the biggest to hit Southern California in at least two years—is expected to generate waves up to 11 feet, the National Weather Service said.

The high surf advisory was supposed to end at 5 p.m. Friday, but waves 6 to 8 feet high were still hitting Santa Monica by late afternoon. The waves are supposed to continue Saturday before winding down Sunday.
