....anyone remember the old days when Santa Monica actually had it's own fireworks? That is until the gangs and gridlock ended it only to be replaced by "Dawn's Early Light" fireworks that were constantly "fogged out" from view. Was nice for a while though...especially if you were fortunate enough to have a table on the 3rd level deck at Tampico Tillys in the original Santa Monica Place. The new SMPlace offers the same fantastic views even if its a little harder to see the ocean with the new hotel across the street blocking the view. Hey what ever happened to the height restrictions that were part of the lanugage that required the original SMPlace to provide 10K SQ. FT of public access facing the ocean just to have an unobstructed view? Guess those board members of the California Coastal commission have long since passed on.

Where and when are the fireworks?

There are no fireworks in Santa Monica. If you're willing to travel, we've compiled a list of firework shows in the Westside and South Bay, which you can view here http://santamonica.patch.com/articles/where-to-go-for-july-4th

Yes RJ, I remember it all when SM was a great beach town - not owned by corporations and developers - not destroyed and truly open to citizen participation- between the owned council, coastal commission and gangs ( but I repeat myself ) we are over- I watch and listen to the hypocrisy and yearn for the days of all it- before traffic, before all the ugliness of what is going on is destroying our town
