Do You Back Proposed Ban on Circumcision in Santa Monica?

Anti-circumcision activists recently filed a petition to put the initiative on next year's ballot.

The anti-circumcision movement has arrived in Santa Monica. Previously, activists were successful in putting a related measure on the November ballot in San Francisco. Now, they're attempting to do the same in SM for next November's election.

The activists are circulating a petition to put “Genital Cutting of Male Minors” to a public vote in Santa Monica. According to the petition, violators would go to jail for up to one year and be fined $1,000.

The surgical procedure, which is often conducted as part of a religious rite, and can reduce the risk of HIV infection, according to the World Journal of Urology.
