Dogs dressed as a dragon, witches, a mailman, superheroes—and even a school bus—come out for the second-annual Pet Halloween Parade & Costume Contest.

Dogs (and cats) came out in droves on Sunday afternoon for the second-annual Pet Halloween Parade & Costume Contest, hosted by . Dressed as a dragon, witches, a mailman, superheroes—and even a schoolbus—they trotted up and down Montana Avenue, enjoying their very own Halloween a day before the holiday.

Over the course of the afternoon, participants stopped at various judging stations along Montana, between Sixth Street and 17th Street.

At 4:30 p.m., on the broad sidewalk next to the parking lot, hundreds of dollars' worth of prizes were given out, along with awards.

Categories included Most Original/ Best in Show, Best Duo or Group (animals or animal and human), "beachiest" costume and funniest costume.

Proceeds from the event are going to Unleash the Beach, an advocacy group promoting .
