Downtown Street Will Close for Expo Work

The eastbound lane of Colorado Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets will close permanently.

Work to build a downtown station for the Expo Light Rail will permanently close the eastbound lane of Colorado Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets starting Feb. 18.

Crews will work between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, according to a notice from the city.

The downtown station is one of three being built in Santa Monica. It will serve as the western terminus for the Expo line, which will take riders to downtown Los Angeles in about 45 minutes.

The line currently ends in Culver City. The extension through West Los Angeles and into Santa Monica is scheduled to open in 2016.

Yikes, yikes, and more yikes. I am going to have to re-think my route to the library, YMCA and Von's.

More bad planning by the City. Just because we want transit, that does not excuse continuing to do things already proven not to work, like one-way streets downtown, where traffic is gridlocked already unless you go there in the middle of the night when nothing is open.

That's an extreme statement. People can still commute in city streets all times of the day. It's never "gridlocked". This is not bad planning, we need rail transit as an alternative....or else you just rely on cars, cars, cars, to get you around, which in itself, is just traffic and congestion.
