While it certainly is no Middle Earth, "The Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood's Santa Monica house sold for $1.758 million, according to the MLS. The Spanish-style home, which dates from 1924, was listed as an opportunity to remodel.
There's a good chance that the new owner will start from scratch, but the house at 320 22nd St. has some cool features, including a round foyer with a cast-iron-tile floor from a British brewery. There is also a guesthouse and office, and the existing home has three bedrooms in 2,130 square feet.
Wood played Frodo Baggins in "The Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy, based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien. He also stars in "Wilfred," one of the bizarrest comedies to bark up the tree in a long time, and the currently buzzed-about Sundance film, "Celeste and Jesse Forever."
Roya Kianmahd of Keller Williams in Santa Monica handled both sides of the transaction.
Wood played Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings (2001-03) trilogy. He appears in the TV hit, Wilfred and will be back as Baggins in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (2013).
Actor Dylan McDermott was the home's previous owner.
