  • If you're into UFOs, you won't want to miss tonight's author talk at the . Los Angeles Times journalist Annie Jacobsen will discuss her new investigative book, Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base. The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the MLK Auditorium, with a book sale and signing following the discussion.

  • 's Percussion Ensemble Recital will take place at 11:15 a.m. on the school's main campus. Conductor Matthew Altmire will direct "a creative, unique performance of percussion music, covering a variety of styles," the college said in a statement. Free tickets are available at the SMC Music Office at PAC 211.
  • Also on the music front, Elemental Strings Auditions for the 2011-12 school year at will be held today from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Students who are currently in the third or fourth grade and playing violin, viola, cello or bass are invited to audition. Go here for more info.
