3 Mules Go for a Walk on San Vicente

Here's something you don't see every day: Mules walking on San Vicente Boulevard.

A silver-haired man with three mules in tow was spotted Monday evening sauntering along the median of San Vicente Boulevard.

A reader captured their trip as she drove through Brentwood—her picture shows the animals under blue skies near Brentwood's coral trees, tall glass office buildings in the background.

What's a trip to the Westside without a stop at the beach? A Reddit user posted a picture of the same man with his mules at the same day near the sand in Santa Monica.

It was a rare sight for locals, who are more accustomed to watching runners glide down the grassy median, but not as uncommon as you might think. Other Reddit readers have caught glimpses of the nomadic quartet across the Southland, including in Torrance, Fullerton and Culver City.

Their owner, according to ABC's San Diego affiliate, is 65-year-old John Sears, who goes by the name "Mule." The animals are named, "Little Girl," "Lady" and "Pepper."

"We're claiming our right to be what we are move freely in all four directions," "Mule" told ABC 10. But that has reportedly gotten him into some trouble with the authorities—he was given a hefty citation for unlawful camping in Torrey Pines, ABC 10 reported.

Mule is fighting the citation in court, according to his website, 3mules.com.
