Mar. 21: Reusable-Bag Giveaway

Good morning and welcome to the second day of spring. Expect more rain today and at various intervals throughout the rest of the week. More on the weather in a sec.

Well, we predicted that this would be the biggest weekend of the year for Santa Monica, and it appears to have turned out that way, thanks in large part to the LA Marathon and Buy Local Day. Capping it all off, we had yet another power outage here in town; we hope to update you on its status later this morning.

The Main Event

  • Need an extra reusable bag? Green Vets LA—a sewing company that has partnered with West Los Angeles' Veterans Administration Hospital—will be giving them out for free in the Cafeteria from 12 to 1 p.m. The sturdy bags are sewn from reclaimed cloth and manufactured in the U.S. See how they look right here.

The Runner-Up

  • When the bag giveaway ends, bridge-playing will begin at the and last until 3 p.m. (as per usual on Mondays). The event is intended for adults 50 and up; advanced beginners are invited to participate.

Other Happenings

  • The Architectural Review Board's meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at . Sign Code revisions and enforcement, sustainable building design, the Boards and Commissions Dinner, and the proposed City of Santa Monica Design Awards program are on the agenda.
