  • The Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau will hold its second annual Travel and Tourism Summit this morning from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the . Speakers include City Manager Rod Gould; SMCVB CEO Misti Kerns; and Caroline Beteta, who is president and CEO of the California Travel & Tourism Commission.

  • On the heels of a new school district superintendent being named last night, the PTA Council will hold its Honorary Service Awards and Installation Breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. at the . The cost is $25 per person; e-mail Wendy Navin at sw_navin@yahoo.com if you're planning to go.
  • Unsure if your business is on the right track?   • Don't know much about rent control but want to? You're in luck: A tenant seminar on the subject will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the . Attendees will learn about "how rent and amenities are defined, the protections against eviction; and the remedies available for excess rent, non-performance of maintenance and loss of amenities," according to the Rent Control Board.

This Day in Santa Monica History

  • On May 10, 2000, Bill Foster—better known as "The Fox," a.k.a. "The World's Fastest Beer Drinker"—died at his home in Santa Monica. He was 68.
