May 24: Samohi Orchestras Are Warmed Up for Pops Concert

The Main Event

  • The Orchestras' annual Pops Concert, typically the school's most popular concert of the year, happens tonight. The performance will showcase all six Samohi orchestras and include tunes featured in movies ranging from Lawrence of Arabia to Pirates of the Caribbean. The show will take place in Barnum Hall starting at 7 p.m.; tickets are $10 for adults, half as much for seniors and students.

  • Looking for a Bike Month celebration? Cruise over to the , where nonprofits Sustainable Streets and Grand Masters Cycling will be throwing a shindig for cyclists. Beer, food, raffle prices—and, of course, bikes—are on the bill, as is a free bike valet service. If that's not enough reason to go, the Alehouse will be donating 10 percent of sales to Sustainable Streets.

  • 's Environmental Issues Lecture Series concludes this evening with “Green Screens Are Growing." "This session will explore the wealth of exciting new environmentally oriented movies that are challenging and transforming the film industry and our culture to become more sustainable," according to the college. The program starts at 6:30 p.m. in Room 123 at SMC's Bundy Campus; it will last till at least 7:30 p.m., with a question and answer session to follow.
  • Following a cocktail reception Monday night, the 12th annual B. Riley & Co. Investor Conference formally begins today. For the two-day conference, which is taking place at , more than 140 companies will give presentations—relating to technology, retail and additional topics—to investors and other financial services professionals.
