Oct. 28: YWCA's Halloween Haunted House Opens

The Main Event

  • The opens the doors to its from 3 to 9 p.m. There will also be a maze, a costume parade, balloons, crafts, face-painting, Halloween-themed snacks and meals. The event and haunted house were designed by the organization's Girl Central middle and high school girls, and all proceeds will go to support the YWCA Cycle of Life programs. Admission is $5 for kids; $10 for adults.

The Runner-Up

  • Twenty to 25 formerly homeless individuals affiliated with agencies connected to the Westside Shelter & Hunger Coalition will be honored, along with local businesses and civic groups, at the WSHC’s 16th annual Celebrating Success breakfast. It takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the .

Other Happenings

  • The fifth German Currents Showcase, which is featuring some of the most acclaimed German films of 2011, continues tonight at . The double-feature starts at 7:30 p.m. and includes two dramas: The Day I Was Not Born, seeing its Los Angeles premiere; and Westwind, screening in the U.S. for the first time. Tickets are $11, with discounts available.
  • 's John Drescher Planetarium presents "Dawn at Vesta," a special show revolving around images taken by a NASA spacecraft after it entered a large main-belt asteroid over the summer. The show starts at 8 p.m., an hour after “The Night Sky Show” begins. Tickets are $5 to each show or $9 to both.
  • A "Miracle Healing Crusade" will take place at the tonight. Pastor Mitchell will preach and lead attendees in prayer for the sick, and there will be singing and testimonies as well. Admission is free; parking is $9. Doors are at 6 p.m.

Last but Not Least

  • “The Pursuit of Happiness,” a concert featuring choreography from across the globe, continues at with performances at 4 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18, with discounts available.
