School Board Member's Daughter Who Ran Boston Marathon Safe

Jayme Mechur, daughter of Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education member Ralph Mechur, had a friend text her father that she is safe.

A Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School Board of Education member's daughter, who ran the Boston marathon, has notified her father she is safe after two explosions near the race's finish line killed three people and injured scores of others.

Jayme Mechur, 31, of Carlsbad had her friend text her father, Ralph Mechur, who lives and works in Santa Monica, that she was unharmed. She was still a ways from the end of the race when the two blasts struck near the finish line.

"I had just really found out that it happened," Mechur said. "We’re all happy [she is safe]. We’re so sad about what happened. It’s just inexplicable."
