The Main Event

  • It's flapjacks for a good cause all weekend at . The restaurant is raising money for the Activities League with a $6.95 PAL Pancakes Special. More specifically, money will go to PAL's After-School Culinary Arts Program for high school students. One hundred percent of proceeds from sales of the special—fresh blueberry or strawberry wheat pancakes, served with syrup and a side of bacon, ham or sausage—go to the program.

The Runner-Up

  • Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors gets a new treatment courtesy of the Los Angeles Theatre ensemble. Directed by Drew Shirley, the production is being staged at the Powerhouse Theatre (3116 Second St.). The first of 10 free shows happens today at 7 p.m.

Other Happenings

  • Hard as it may be to believe, next year marks the 30th anniversary of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. The is putting on a double feature of that sci-fi classic, along with another: Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and admission is $11, with discounts available.
  • Electro-grunge-pop band White Lights hole up at tonight for a concert also featuring Vanish Valley, Black Party Politics and DJ Zander. The show begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are $5.
  • Keeping up with its Friday concert tradition, welcomes hip-hop/soul group The Goods, along with KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez. The show starts at 9 p.m.; admission is free before 10 p.m. and $8 afterward.

Last but Not Least

  • The beach volleyball camp hosted by Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos ends today.
