Recent Rain Storm Drops Nearly 1 Inch in L.A.
Forecasters say more rain is on the way Friday, with a smaller chance of precipitation Saturday and Sunday.
Nearly 1 inch of rain fell on most parts of the Los Angeles Basin Thursday and auto collisions more than quadrupled from one week ago.
The rain began Wednesday night and by 6 p.m. Thursday, downtown had gotten .82 of an inch, Avalon .92 of an inch., Santa Monica .89 of an inch, Woodland Hills .98 of an inch and Van Nuys .83 of an inch, according to meteorologist Andrew Rorke of the National Weather Service.
The severity of the rain diminished after 6 p.m., but "steady rain" was expected Friday, Rorke said.

The National Weather Service has revised its weekend forecast, reducing its chance of rain for the weekend to about 20 percent, Rorke said.
California Highway Patrol Officer Christian Cracraft said that as of 9 a.m., when most of the heavy rain had fallen, there were 342 collisions compared with 80 the previous Thursday.
