What's the Best Breakfast Spot in Santa Monica?

This week's Reader's Choice: Where best should we go for that all-important meal of the day?

Kegs and eggs, prosciutto Gruyère croissant toast, homemade granola, biscuits and gravy... Santa Monica cafes and restaurants do breakfast right.

We of course have some diehard favorite spots (our editor's love for ), but we promise not to stack the... pancakes in this week's Reader's Choice 2012 Best Breakfast Place Awards.

We want to hear your favorites, and why, so nominate more than one if you'd like. The deadline is 9 a.m. Friday to nominate places in our comments— restaurants this is your time to shine.

A few places that have come up so far:

Mike Burch April 02, 2012 at 06:31 PM
I nominate Blue Plate on Montana. Best food, great service and spotlessly clean. The best breakfast by far in Santa Montica.
Charles Pell April 03, 2012 at 12:04 AM
I nominate Milo & Olive, just try the Cheesy Eggs on Super Cheesy Toast and the contest is over!

I would nominate Norm's on Colorado & 4th. They are open 24 hours and the variety and quality for your money is above reproach. Staff is congenial and very responsive & swift. I have taken breakfast there frequently for more than 40 years. Another is Izzy's at 15th. and Wilshire which is a little more expensive but it is also a good choice.
Phil Brock April 03, 2012 at 02:44 PM
I have to submit Callahan's on Wilshire between 12th & Euclid. Fantastic breakfast in a diner at great prices. Family owned and a long time Santa Monica tradition...been there since the 1940's. Ask for Abe's home made jam (a real treat!)

The Cafe at the bowling alley at Pico and Third. They have hand-shaped sausage patties and several delicious scrambles. For the best breakfast experience in Santa Monica, I nominate Back on the Beach, with table service on the sand, and house-made scones.
Andrew Byrnes April 04, 2012 at 06:24 PM
I'm partial to Gilbert's on Pico Blvd.
