"A Manual for Creating Atheists" -- A talk by author and philosopher Peter Boghossian
"Faith is not a virtue." With that premise, Peter Boghossian, philosopher and author of "A Manual for Creating Atheists," will introduce us to the techniques of "Street Epistemology" about how to constructively engage people of faith in conversation that can help lead them to give up what he calls "an unreliable path to the truth." Dr. Boghossian is on the Philosophy faculty at Portland State University and has worked in the Oregon state prison system teaching inmates to develop critical thinking and moral philosophy skills based on Socratic methods. He now applies those skills to helping others give up their faith and embrace reason. After Peter's talk we will have time for a Q&A followed by refreshments in Forbes Hall. Peter can also sign copies of his book which will be available for sale (currently #2 at Amazon in both the Philosophy and Atheism categories). Please join us for one of the most thought-provoking (or provocative, depending on your outlook) public talks AAHS has ever sponsored.
Sponsored by Atheists, Agnostics, Humanists and Secularists (AAHS) at the UU Community Church of Santa Monica.
