Fusing enamel to metal is a beautiful art dating back to Ancient Egypt. Used in everything from vintage street signs to cookware, bathtubs to fine jewelry, enamel techniques can be found everywhere you look! We will be using colorful vitreous (glass) granules, applied to copper and then fired in a kiln. Learn to create many styles and patterns while making your own enamel earrings, pendant or badge to take away at the end of the session. This is a beginners class so all skill levels are welcome! Sharon is teaching a copper stamped bracelet class on 3/22/14 and a silver enameling class on 4/12/14 as well.

Sharon Kaplan, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, is a Los Angeles-based enamelist, metal smith and jewelry designer. Inspired by the work of Lalique, Fabergé and other artists from the mid-1800s through the Art Nouveau period, she has developed a unique line of handmade jewelry that embodies her creativity, skill and exquisite sense of design. Her passion for color is apparent in all her enamel work as each color is chosen thoughtfully and matched for unexpected effect. Sharon’s pieces have adorned celebrities including Anne Hathaway, Megan Fox, Frances McDormand and Elle Fanning, and have appeared in movies such as Transformers 2 and Get Smart. As she continues to expand her line, her fan base has grown rapidly and her work can be found in high-end stores and boutiques around the country. sharonkaplanjewelry.com
