Philadelphia sports fans are a notoriously passionate bunch, so when a fellow sports fan was injured, Philly fans in Los Angeles gathered to channel their energy into doing something positive.  On Tuesday, August 9th 2011 at The Shack in Santa Monica, California – the home of everything Philadelphia – Phillies fans extend an invitation to all sports fans in Southern California for a night of sportsmanship, philanthropy and good will at Comedy for a Cause.

Comedy for a Cause brings together an eclectic group of noted cutting edge standup comics including Ray Grady, Erin Foley, and Dwayne Perkins.  Headlining the evening is the grand prize winner of Last Comic Standing, Alonzo Bodden, who is also appearing on Showtime this month with his comedy special, “Who’s Paying Attention?”  The host for the evening  is former doctor turned actor/comedian Matt Iseman, host of Sports Soup on Versus, and Clean House on the Style Channel.

With the Stow’s family blessing to move forward, and family members confirmed to attend the event, the night promises to deliver upon the true meaning of giving back.

 

In addition to the comedy line-up, the night will feature a silent auction, raffle, wine tasting, and complementary appetizers and drink specials.  Admission is free of charge.

About Philly – LA Has A Heart:

On opening day of the major league baseball season, Bryan Stow, a fan of the San Francisco Giants was beaten unconscious while leaving Los Angeles Dodgers’ Stadium. Stow, 42, is a paramedic and a father of two children, ages 8 and 12. He is currently receiving medical care at San Francisco General Hospital. As a way to raise a voice to end senseless acts of violence at sporting events and help create a more civil fan and family friendly experience at sporting events everywhere, the Comedy For A Cause event will raise money to help with Bryan Stow’s medical expenses.  Formed by a passionate group of Los Angeles based Philadelphia Phillies fans, Philly – LA Has A Heart will be a gathering of cutting edge comics, DJ music, wine tasting, and a silent auction and raffle to raise money and help the Stow family with Bryan’s medical bills and as a way to demonstrate the goodwill and charity that can happen when fans of teams from all walks of life come together to do something positive. About the Comedians:

Alonzo Bodden:  An international headliner, Alonzo has performed comedy worldwide including Just For Laughs in Montreal, Kilkenny Ireland Comedy fest, Sydney, Australia, Brighton Beach in the UK and he’s entertained the troops everywhere from Iraq to Greenland. His brand new one hour comedy special, "Who's Paying Attention?" premiered on Showtime and he can be seen as a host of the new TV show Inside the Vault.  Introduced to America on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Alonzo Bodden was runner up on Season 2 and came back to win it all on Last Comic Standing Season 3, “The Best of the Best.”  Since then he’s been a regular on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and a favorite guest on Adam Corolla’s radio show and podcast.  While his movie career has consisted mainly of playing security guards, he’s protected the best: Steve Martin and Queen Latifah in Bringing Down The House and Leslie Nielsen in Scary Movie 4.  He’s hosted 101 Cars You must Drive on Speed Channel and America’s Worst Driver on The Travel Channel.

 

Ray Grady:  Quickly capturing the eye of those in the know, Chicago native Ray Grady is gaining buzz as one of the hottest rising comedic stars to watch. He recently made his first guest-starring role on TV One's Love That Girl. He has also made appearances on Martin Lawrence presents 1st Amendment Stand-UpBill Bellamy's Who's Got Jokes, and One Mic Stand.

 

Erin Foley:  Regularly seen at Gotham Comedy Club, Caroline’s on Broadway, The Improv, The Laugh Factory and Stand Up New York, Erin has performed at the Just for Laughs/TBS Comedy Festival in Chicago and the Marshall’s Women in Comedy Festival.  Erin has had the honor of being selected to perform at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival three times.  She recently shot her own half hour comedy special for Comedy Central and has taped Chelsea Lately and The Kilborn File on FOX.

 

Dwayne Perkins: With appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Late Late Show, and Premium Blend, Dwayne has earned a spot in today’s class of elite Stand-up Comics.  Dwayne is a regular crowd pleaser in New York, Boston and Los Angeles.  The recent culmination of Dwayne’s talent and work has resulted in his very own Comedy Central Presents half hour special.  Don’t Tivo those commercials, Dwayne usually pops up in ads pushing products for The Man.
