5 Hot Tips for Summertime Health

What says summer more than anything? A healthy, glowing body! Whatever your age, size or current health condition, you'll benefit from these 5 Summertime Health Tips to look and feel your best.

 1) Hydrate
Summer means showing some skin! As our body’s largest detoxification organ, healthy skin starts within. Start the day with a hydrating boost by squeezing half of a fresh lemon or lime into your morning water. Sip, rather than gulp water throughout the day. The goal being to drink half your body weight in ounces of pure water daily. Many people don't realize that by the time your body sends you the "I'm thirsty" signal, you're already dehydrated! If you find you're not drinking enough water, drink herbal teas and Coconut KeVita, a good source of electrolytes. Avoid dehydration by limiting caffeinated drinks such as coffee, black tea and sugary sodas.

 2) Absorption
Your body’s ability to absorb nutrients influences every system in your body from healthy plump lips to the smooth skin on the tops of your feet. To utilize the good energy and effort of drinking clean water and eating a diet of the freshest of foods, we need to be sure we're absorbing our nutrients. Increase your absorption by adding full spectrum minerals to your diet. Try adding a pinch of unrefined, white sea salt or liquid minerals to your drinking water. My personal favorites, Blue Ocean Minerals™, are in KeVita Daily Cleanse™ and KeVita Mojita™. Drinking liquids ½ hour before or 1 hour after meals may also help.

 3) Alkalize

If we fuel ourselves with just the right balance of summertime foods and drinks we will thrive and also, alkalize! Research indicates, maintaining a pH balance between 6.9 and 7.4 on the pH scale, supports optimum health. When our bodies are able to sustain a balanced pH, healthy cells can thrive and we're poised to feel our best. If our pH levels are too acidic we may be more prone to illness and disease. Focus on a diet of organic fresh fruits, an abundance of vegetables, including plenty of dark leafy greens, fresh green smoothies and juices, salads, whole grains and clean protein foods.

 4) Boost your Metabolism

Boost your metabolism with Burst Training, an easy and fun exercise that most people can do (be sure to check with your doctor if you have a health condition or concern). Try 90-second bursts of exercise before and after meals! This quick burst of exercise can assist in resetting your metabolism. If you tend to be a grazer, switch things up for two weeks and focus on larger meals without snacking in between. Try eating a protein and veggie meal for breakfast that lasts you until lunchtime, such as eggs and sautéed veggies. Each meal should ideally hold you until the next.

 5) Cleanse Inside & Out

Summertime is the easiest time of year to do a cleanse. The warmer weather and increased access to fresh, local seasonal fruits and vegetables help make “light eating” or intermittent fasting programs doable! You’ll need to make your own blended green vegetable smoothies, juices and soups or secure a reliable supply for the duration of your cleanse. Plan your cleanse well in advance. Choose a cleanse plan that works with your appetite, ability and lifestyle. And be sure to consult your alternative health care practitioner to confirm you are in a good place, health-wise to go through a cleanse.
