BLOG: There's Nightlife on Montana Ave.

Plus, the latest on the real estate market in north Santa Monica, including a house for sale once occupied by Michelle Pfieffer and Kate Capshaw.

When I first came to work on Montana Avenue 22 years ago, there was absolutely nothing going on after 6 p.m. It was totally dead, not only at the mortuary on the corner of Euclid and Montana (seriously, there was a mortuary and funeral home on that corner) but the entire street seemed to go dark early.

Now, with , live talks at and late hours and outdoor tables and chairs at Peets Coffee, the corner of 14th Street and Montana Avenue is starting to turn into a night time destination. Here are a few photos from my phone, shot Friday night just before the sun went down.

If you find yourself at 14th and Montana, stop in our office and say hello!

Here is your real estate news:

ACTIVE/AVAILABLE LISTINGS

239 21st Pl.: 6bd + 5.5ba., $3.79 million, new listing, with a little bit of updating (new appliances and countertops) this home would easily be worth well over $4 million. Oversized lot (apx. 10,290 sq. ft.)  apx. 5,692 sq. ft. of interior space located at the corner of Georgina. Open house 2-5 p.m. Sunday 2-5 (see photo below)!

346 16th St.: 4bd + 3ba., $2.49 million, new listing, this house has some interesting pedigree having once been occupied by not one, but two famous actresses: Michelle Pfieffer then Kate Capshaw.  There is a very little yard but the house is super charming. There is a guest house over the garage.  Originally built in 1930. Three bedrooms/ two baths upstairs; one bedroom/ one bath downstairs. Last sold in 1998 for $1.34 million.

317 Marguerita Ave.: 5bd + 4.5ba., $4.25 million, new listing, this house sold in 2010 for $2.96 million and I thought it would get torn down. It’s nice to see that someone rehabbed it instead. Lots of tech features, great location, pool, fully priced, in my opinion.

343 14th St.: 4bd + 4.5ba., $3.65 million, new listing, custom built in 1998 and sold for $1.34 million, it has been updated/expanded since then.  Over 4,000 sq. ft. on an approximately 7,500 square foot lot. Beautiful section of tree lined 14th St.

615 24th St.: 3bd + 4ba., $2.89 million, new listing,  two-story Spanish with “international” appeal. Very unique. There is not much back yard space but the house is spacious and high quality.

266 19th St.: 5bd + 5.5ba., $4.19 million, new listing, a whopper of a price and a whopper of a house with over 6,100 square feet on an approximately 8,949 square foot lot.  Corner 0f 19th St. and Georgina Ave.   Built in 1980, kitchen has been updated and shows beautifully.

NEW SALES

335 24th St.: 5bd + 4.5ba., $3.4 million, maybe the third time will be the successful time for this versatile home. Not everyone’s ideal floor plan but a good house at a good price.

Vice President Joe Biden tried Tuesday to rally Congress to act on gun control legislation, sayingRead More that "the country has changed and [politicians] will pay a political price for not getting engaged and dealing with gun safety." "As proud as the president and I am of the progress we have made, we need Congress to act," Biden said in a speech delivered at the White House. "The American people are demanding it. We need to make sure that the voices of the ones we lost are the loudest ones we here in this fight." Specifically, Biden was referring to politicians like Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), who saw her approval rating plummet after she voted against legislation that would expand background checks. Sen. Jeff Flake's (R-AZ) and Sen. Mark Begich's (D-AK) ratings also took a nosedive. On the otherside, Democrats in red states, like Sens. Mary Landrieu (LA) and Kay Hagan (NC), got a slight boost in their approval ratings after they voted in favor of the gun control legislation. The vice president also released a set of federal guidelines Tuesday for developing high quality emergency operations for schools, higher education institutions and places of worship. "We made sure the guide reflects all the lessons we've learned over the years," he said.
