Oscar Dirt

Are you looking forward to seeing all the limos in the neighborhood Sunday afternoon? The North of Montana Ave neighborhood has always had its share of Academy Award attendees, sometime even nominees and winners; this year will be no different. Several actors from one of the year’s best films have homes nearby. Did you know that Bradley Cooper lives in the area?  So does Christian Bale, and Jennifer Lawrence has a place just south of Montana.

I enjoyed American Hustle more than any of the other great films and although I’m in couple of office pools and could win a couple of bucks, I probably won’t watch the broadcast show live. DVR is the only way I can watch TV.

It wasn’t that long ago – 1961 -1968, that the ceremonies were held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and Santa Monica still has some fun places to see the show. The Hotel Casa del Mar will have the live broadcast with themed drink specials and the opportunity to win a dinner for two in their restaurant, just bring your Oscar ballot to the lobby to win. Upper West, will host an Oscar party which will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, with raffles, prizes and an Oscar pick contest included with a suggested $20 dollar donation.

Hosting your own party? Plan a concession stand menu with nachos, gourmet hotdogs, candy and of course popcorn. Try coming up with your own inspired cocktail, how about this Captain Philips recipe and of course Shirley temples for the kids!

What are your Oscar picks?
