Blog | Upper West Features Artist Anyes Galleani This Sunday

The opening reception of “Beautifully Broken” featuring artist Anyes Galleani takes place from 4 to 7 p.m.

Upper West has always been an avid supporter of the arts. This Saturday November 18th, an artist reception featuring the work of Anyes Galleani will take place in celebration of the new exhibition, “Beautifully Broken.” Galleani’s work features mixed media art, with a photomontage and collage.

Galleani was always a creative person but never considered herself an artist until she started experimenting with photomontage in the early 90's. She explains, “Although I was not making "paintings" I was creating very small art pieces collaging film and transparencies then painting on them. The final product was saved under glass and printed like a photograph, on paper.”

Anyes has been working in the creative field for over 30 years. Her work has been featured in magazines, venues and exhibits and is also on view in residential, commercial as well as in the corporate world.

A native to Italy, Anyes came to California to study film and photography and soon established herself as a photographer/art director for fashion and celebrities. She was drawn to photomontage, which opened the door to an array of new opportunities, from gallery shows to design and video projects.

Anyes talks about her process, “I print my photomontages on silk or paper, then collage them with colored paper and acrylic paint. The transparency of the silk allows the colors and textures of the layers below to show through, adding additional levels of depth.

Most paintings are on wood panels, others on canvas, the look of the art is intentionally raw and organic. Sometimes I use the same image in more than one painting, obtaining very different results, and making each piece unique.

Galleani visited Upper West when a friend and fellow artist was on exhibit. She loved the space and atmosphere. She is excited to show at Upper West.

“Beautifully Broken” will feature twenty five mixed media paintings. The subjects include cityscapes, flowers, abstracts and women. Upper West offers four areas for artists to hang their work. Anye has chosen to feature a different subject in each area.

The opening reception takes place from 4:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. Upper West is located at 3321 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, 90404.
