Trailers, Hotel Collect Coveted Architecture Awards

Three Santa Monica properties are honored at the 42nd annual L.A. Architectural Awards.

A reconfigured 1960s warehouse, the only newly-built, LEED gold registered hotel in Santa Monica and 20 refurbished mobile home trailers picked up design awards Wednesday at the 42nd annual L.A. Architectural Awards.

Hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council, the awards honor innovative architecture and design projects from across Los Angeles County and were selected by a jury of 20 professionals from among hundreds of entries.

Awards for local properties include Indian Paint Brush Productions, LLC (designed by Barton Meyers Associates, Inc.) for renovation, Shore Hotel (designed by Ehrlich Architects) for new buildings and Mountain View Mobile Homes (designed by Marmol Radzinger) for housing.

Except in special categories, winning projects were completed in 2010 or 2011.

"The high-caliber winners of this year's Architectural Awards represent riches for Los Angeles," said Frances Anderton, host of KCRW’s DnA: Design & Architecture and the event's emcee. "From the smart mix of public space, art, architecture and landscape in the LACMA Transformation Phase II to the gentle elegance of the Deronda Residence in Hollywood Hills, these projects set a standard for design and construction that helps strengthen our communities and support our economy."
