What Section of Town Does the Creative Class Live In?

The map below a snapshot of where the "creative class" in town works across your neighborhood, as reported by the 2011 American Community Survey.

"Newscruncher" is an ongoing series that runs every weekday, breaking down data from across town. We pull together all the week's posts on the weekend. Do you see any issues with this map? If so, please email data@patch.com.

This map shows a snapshot of where the "creative class" in town works. By "creative class," we mean people working in management, business, science, and the arts. The census breaks these workers out separately because they have some of the most important roles in the economy.

Data are from the United States Census Bureau's 2011 American Community Survey. (Note: Census.gov was "unavailable" at the time this article was published thanks to the federal government shutdown.)  These values are an estimate for 2011 taking into account 60 months of collected data.

Using your cursor, you can hover over any census tract – the geographic region defined by the U.S. Census – and see the actual number of creative class workers in the box in the upper right hand corner of the map.

What do you think explains the clusters of creative class workers? Tell us in a comment or a blog post.
