Santa Monica Library Fee

Did you know that the SM Library now charges $25 annual renewal fee for non-residents? So even if you work here, and have, for several years, you now have to pay an annual fee to check out books! I love the SM library. I use it often. Volunteers are working, and of course, there is some staff, but isn't that financed by taxes. Library cards used to be good for 2-3 years. Now you must renew annually and pay a $25 fee! Is it only me that doesn't like this concept? Sometimes I feel that SM is trying to drain its residents and businesses of every penny.
