4 Arrested at DUI Checkpoint

More than 1,440 cars rolled through checkpoint Friday night at Pico Boulevard and Third Street, police said.

Four men—one from Santa Monica—were arrested Friday night at a DUI checkpoint at Pico Boulevard and Third Street.

Of the 1,443 cars that rolled through the checkpoint, the Santa Monica Police Department reported screening 266. Officers issued 17 citations, four to unlicensed drivers and the others for vehicle code violations.

The men arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence were: Matthew A. Slater, 41, of Santa Monica; Michael Spand Hejazi, 39, of Los Angeles; Edward Meshuris, 30, of Los Angeles; and Thomas Kieran Rodgers II, 33 of Bel Air, MD.

Each of their cars was impounded.

The checkpoint was erected from 8:20 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. It was funded with a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
