Christmas DUI Arrests Down from Last Year

The California Highway Patrol arrested 34 motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, down from last year's total of 91.

The California Highway Patrol today reported no traffic deaths on Los Angeles County highways during the first 30 hours of this year's Christmas holiday. The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday and ended at 12:59 p.m. Wednesday, according to a department statement.

During that same reporting period last year, there were three traffic- related deaths on Los Angeles County highways, according to the department statement. Statewide, this year, three traffic-related deaths, down from last year's total of nine.  

In Los Angeles County, CHP officers arrested 34 motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, down from last year's total of 91.

Statewide, there were 115 DUI arrests, down from last year's total of 337.
