Tall Robber Nabbed for Alleged $350 Wine Theft

Darrell Wilbert Allums, a homeless Santa Monica man, was held on $57,500 bail after his arrest Thursday on suspicion of stealing $350 worth of wine from the BevMo! at 3212 Wilshire Blvd.

Six-foot, 7-inches tall and weighing 275 pounds, Allums reportedly intimidated store employees when he allegedly stole the wine Nov. 26. He returned to the store Thursday, prompting management to call 911.

Allums, 53, who allegedly fled the store before officers arrived, was arrested as he drove in the 2400 block of Ocean Park Boulevard. He was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery, violation of probation and on two outstanding warrants.

It wasn't jolly old Saint Nick who surprised a Santa Monica couple at their Pico Boulevard home Christmas Eve night.

It was a naked woman, identified as 31-year-old Rachel F. Szpunar of Los Angeles, who knocked on their door. The couple brought her inside, clothed her and then called the police.

Officers said they arrived at the home in the 1000 block to find Szpunar on the couch, laughing uncontrollably and, then, intermittently, suddenly falling asleep. She did not know where she was and could not explain how she got to the location with no clothing on, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Szpunar was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Bail was set at $2,500.

Santa Monica Man, 24, Suspected of DUI

A 24-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested Friday night near Bundy Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police said they stopped Sennett Devermont after he made an illegal right-hand turn. Devermont reportedly showed signs of being under the influence, but refused to take a field sobriety test. He was arrested, and his car searched, revealing alleged Hydrocodone that was kept in the passenger compartment, police reported.

Devermont took a blood test, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and bail was set at $5,000.

Driver Found Transporting Alleged Coke, Meth

An unlicensed driver from Los Angeles with alleged cocaine and methamphetamine strewn throughout his car was arrested Friday near Broadway and 17th Street

Israel Hernandez-Cruz, 32, was pulled over after he allegedly failed to stop for a pedestrian walking in a crosswalk. He was booked into jail on suspicion of possessing and transporting controlled substances for sale. Bail was set at $30,000.
