Police will conduct a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint Friday evening at an undisclosed location in Santa Monica.
The checkpoint is part of an ongoing campaign to reduce the number of people killed and injured in crashes where alcohol was factor, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
"Over the course of the past year, DUI drivers were involved in 12 collisions, which injured 19 people," said police Lt. Jay Trisler.
The consequences for driving under the influence include jail time, license suspension, and increased cost of car insurance, as well as fines, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, according to the police department.
