Homeless Man Accused of Stealing Empty Cash Register, Beer From Victorian

Oscar Fernando Nierman was identified by officers through a surveillance video.

A homeless man suspected of stealing an empty cash drawer and beer from the Victorian was free on bail Wednesday.

The theft was reported on May 3 at the Victorian, 2640 Main St., according to Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis.

The manager told investigators that the cash register, which had no currency inside, was missing and beer had been taken from a refrigerator, Lewis said.

Security camera footage showed a man taking the cash register drawer and opening the refrigerator, he said.

Investigators identified the man as Oscar Fernando Nierman, 31, from an incident the night before.

Four hours later, officers found Nierman on the corner of Nielsen Way and Bay Street, according to Lewis.

Nierman was freed on May 7 on $20,000 bail.
