James "Whitey" Bulger, the alleged mob boss and Top Ten Fugitive who has been on the run since the mid-'90s, was arrested Wednesday night at the Princess Eugenia apartment complex in Santa Monica. His longtime companion, Catherine Greig, was also arrested.

They are due to make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in downtown Los Angeles at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The Princess Eugenia is located at 1012 Third St., just south of Washington Avenue.

On Thursday morning, media swarmed the apartment complex, trying to gather information from tenants, including in which apartment Bulger and Greig had been staying. Police officers were still stationed outside the complex as well.

As a Bostonian and former resident and worker of West LA and Santa Monica I am shocked that Bulger was living down the street from where I spent a good amount of the last five years. This is certainly a historic day in Boston and it will be very interesting to see any further developments. Great job with the continued coverage!

Fifteen years is a long time. What might have happened if he was younger and even more dangerous? We all learned something here and finger pointing will avoid any solution. We should all be grateful that no one was hurt or lives lost. The cameras on the Promenade and the Pier equipped with imaging equipment need to be made better use of especially for the FBI'S most wanted list. Whitey was known to frequent those areas on a daily basis.
