Lindsay Lohan Caught Lying to Santa Monica Police?

Investigation reportedly concludes the celeb was driving—not her assistant—when Lohan's Porsche crashed into a dump truck on PCH.

The Santa Monica Police Department says it has evidence that Lindsay Lohan lied when she claimed she was not behind the wheel of a Porsche that collided with a dump truck earlier this year, and prosecutors are weighing whether to file charges, which could land her back in jail, it was reported today.

New charges could be considered a violation of her 2011 parole for shoplifting and lead to her returning to L.A. County jail.

An investigation has determined that Lohan was driving the Porsche during the June collision, Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis told the Los Angeles Times. The finding contradicts statements Lohan made after the crash to law enforcement officers.

The Los Angeles County district attorney has already determined the matter is not worthy of a felony filing and referred the matter to the Santa Monica prosecutor's office to determine if the false statement amounts to a violation of the law, prosecutors told the Times. The office is expected to take action this week on the case.

Lohan was given probation for a 2007 conviction for driving under the influence. She was later convicted of shoplifting from a Venice jeweler.

The actress was sent to jail several times for violating the terms of her probation. But she eventually complied with a a schedule of community service at the county morgue and counseling.

In March, Judge Stephanie Sautner ended her probation in the DUI case and reduced the shoplifting probation to unsupervised status. But a new charge would mean Sautner could revoke Lohan's probation.

Vice President Joe Biden tried Tuesday to rally Congress to act on gun control legislation, sayingRead More that "the country has changed and [politicians] will pay a political price for not getting engaged and dealing with gun safety." "As proud as the president and I am of the progress we have made, we need Congress to act," Biden said in a speech delivered at the White House. "The American people are demanding it. We need to make sure that the voices of the ones we lost are the loudest ones we here in this fight." Specifically, Biden was referring to politicians like Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), who saw her approval rating plummet after she voted against legislation that would expand background checks. Sen. Jeff Flake's (R-AZ) and Sen. Mark Begich's (D-AK) ratings also took a nosedive. On the otherside, Democrats in red states, like Sens. Mary Landrieu (LA) and Kay Hagan (NC), got a slight boost in their approval ratings after they voted in favor of the gun control legislation. The vice president also released a set of federal guidelines Tuesday for developing high quality emergency operations for schools, higher education institutions and places of worship. "We made sure the guide reflects all the lessons we've learned over the years," he said.
