Man Charged With Attempted Robbery Against His Mother

Dispatchers heard David Canin threaten to strangle his mother after he arrived at her home and started banging on the door.

On Aug. 27 at approximately 7 a.m. officers responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Oak St. regarding a family disturbance.

The female resident reported to the dispatcher that her son, whom she believed to be under the influence of drugs, was banging on her door. She also reported that she was fearful of her son and the dispatcher heard the subject threaten to strangle her.

When officers arrived they heard the sounds of a struggle inside the residence. When the victim opened the door she insisted that her son be taken to a hospital to be mentally diagnosed. Officers removed the victim from the residence and spoke to the subject, her son.

The subject admitted that he and his mother had argued about money which was missing. The subject was very sweaty and it appeared to officers that the he had been in a physical altercation. The rear bedroom appeared to be ransacked. Having probable cause to believe the suspect had attempted to commit a robbery against his mother officers placed the subject under arrest and transported him to Santa Monica jail.
