A fight outside Copa d'Oro just after the clock struck midnight New Year's morning left a man bleeding severely from a head wound, among other injuries.
A Camarillo man was arrested in connection with the beating, which was reportedly sparked by a verbal altercation inside the bar at 217 Broadway.
Santa Monica police were called out to the scene at 12:04 a.m. Witnesses helped them find the suspect, 24-year-old Adrian Hubbard, who they arrested a few blocks away in the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue.
"The suspect and victim had a verbal altercation inside the bar and both parties had been kicked out of the bar around midnight," police Sgt. Richard Lewis said. "Once outside, the verbal altercation continued and the suspect proceeded to strike the victim several times about the head/face before fleeing towards Ocean Avenue."
The unidentified victim was treated at local hospital for several face and head lacerations and a possible sprained or fractured ankle, Lewis said.
Hubbard was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and parole violation. He is being held without bail at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic, jail records show.
