Man Jumps Off Palisades Bluffs in Suicide Attempt

The man is in serious condition at a local hospital.

A man jumped off the Palisades bluffs in Santa Monica in a suicide attempt on Thursday afternoon, Sgt. Richard Lewis told Santa Monica Patch. He survived the fall but is in serious condition at an area hospital.

Around 3:30 p.m., the man climbed over a railing near the 800 block of and then jumped.

He "was found at approximately 40 feet about PCH in the bluffs," Lewis said. "He didn't make it onto the sidewalk or street."

At least one person witnessed the incident.

The man was transported to an area hospital, where he is in serious condition. He was speaking with authorities when they responded to the scene, Lewis said.

The Pacific Coast Highway was shut down for a brief period but has since been reopened.
