Man Who Robbed Elderly Women Is Convicted

Jeffery Wayne Langford, who targeted individuals in Santa Monica and elsewhere, will be sentenced March 23.

The 55-year-old man who targeted elderly women in Santa Monica and other neighboring cities during his 2008 home-invasion crime spree was convicted on multiple counts on Tuesday. He could face life in prison.

Jeffery Wayne Langford—whom police have referred to as "The Westside Robber," according to KABC—was found guilty on 21 counts, among them first-degree burglary and residential robbery. Other charges included false imprisonment, assault and criminal threats.

Langford was acquitted on 12 other counts. He will be sentenced March 23 and could go to prison for life.

The Los Angeles Superior Court jury—which deadlocked on two additional charges—deliberated for a day before arriving at its decision.

"I think he picked his victims carefully," Deputy District Attorney Belle Chen said after the jury rendered its verdict. She spoke at the Airport Branch Courthouse, where Langford will be sentenced in March.

One of Langford's victims was a 90-year-old woman whom he tied up for hours while stealing her money and jewelry, according to KABC.

Two of the robberies took place on the 2300 block of 22nd St. and the 1200 block of Ashland Ave., according to Canyon News.

Langford was arrested on August 22, 2008, by Los Angeles Police Department officers, with help from detectives, Canyon News reported.
