Pit Bulls Send 8-Year-Old to Hospital

The girl was visiting Santa Monica on Sunday. Three dogs have been quarantined.

An 8-year-old girl was attacked by several pit bulls while visiting Santa Monica Sunday evening.

Santa Monica Police Department’s Animal Control Unit has confiscated the three pit bulls for a 10-day quarantine, according to a department press release.

Police received a call about a dog bite in the 1800 block of 21st Street at around 8 p.m. Sunday, officials said. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered the girl had sustained bite wounds to her left shoulder area, her left foot and calf and left buttock, the release says.

The girl was transported to a local hospital to receive multiple stitches.

"The victim is resting at home and according to her mother, is in considerable pain because of the bites,” said Sgt. Jay Moroso.

The initial police investigation has found no evidence of criminal conduct committed by the dog owners, he said.
