Police Ask for Public's Help in Identifying Shooting Suspect

The shooting is not related to Friday's deadly rampage.

Santa Monica Police asked for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a shooting on Exposition Boulevard on Sunday.

The shooting, which is not related to the deadly rampage on Friday, was reported at 12:50 p.m. June 9 in the 2900 block of Exposition Boulevard, according to SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.

The victim, a 32-year old Hispanic male, was riding his bicycle westbound on Exposition Boulevard, when the suspect drove up alongside and fired several rounds,  striking him.

The victim was taken to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries, Lewis said.

Investigators have identified the suspect involved in the shooting as Levy Ernesto Rodriguez, a 24-year-old Hispanic male and resident of Santa Monica. He is described as 6'3", 190 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.

Search warrants served on Sunday did not turn up Rodriguez. The vehicle believed to be used in the crime, was located and impounded as evidence, he said.
