Police Investigating Alleged Laser-Pointing Incident

A laser was allegedly pointed at a news helicopter hovering in Santa Monica on Wednesday night.

A laser that was allegedly pointed at a news helicopter on Wednesday night is being investigated by police.

Around 11:15 p.m., the pilot of a KCAL9 helicopter noticed that a green laser light was being pointed at it. The helicopter was hovering above the 2900 block of Pico Blvd. After reviewing video, KCAL9 reported an address to the .

No one has been arrested in the alleged incident. Officers searched an apartment but didn't find a laser, SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, lasers can permanently damage eyesight and even cause blindness.

Earlier this month, a 22-year-old man was arrested in Los Angeles after pointing a green laser beam at an LAPD helicopter, according to KCAL9. He could face felony charges.
