A man believed to be the current boyfriend of the woman reportedly escaped from the apartment through the same window.

Two police officers arrived at 6:47 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about the stabbing. They also entered the apartment through the broken window after discovering that the door was locked.

"As officers entered the apartment, they heard struggling in the bedroom," Trisler said. "As officers entered the room, they observed the victim lying on the floor with the suspect straddling her chest. The suspect was repeatedly stabbing the victim in the face and torso area. The suspect refused to obey the officers’ commands to stop stabbing the victim. An officer-involved shooting ensued that resulted in the suspect being mortally wounded."

Police shot the man four times, according to City News Service.

The ex-boyfriend moved in with the woman a few weeks ago, and they soon broke up, the neighbor told the Times.
